Erosion Impact on Coastal Life | Allens Caravans News
Allens Caravans

Here at Allens Caravans we are proud to have a selection of parks across the UK, some beachside, some in town centre locations and some in the rural Heart of England. Most of our parks are surrounded by miles and miles of lush green landscapes, where life is pretty quiet on a day-to-day basis. This is what makes them so ideal for luxury caravan holidays, where peace and predictability goes a long way towards helping our guests relax. As well as these countryside parks, we also have a park on the stunning North Wales coastline. Sunbeach Park is set against a stunning Cardigan Bay backdrop, right next to miles of beautiful beach.

Luckily, Sunbeach benefits from its tranquil and charming location. However, in other parts of the UK coastal erosion is having a serious impact on beaches and beachside caravan parks.

You see, just because Sunbeach’s Cardigan Bay location does not suffer from coastal erosion on the same scale as say, the East coast, it is important to be aware of what is going on geologically with the country’s coastlines.

Case Study: Dawlish Warren, Devon

Dawlish is an incredibly popular holiday destination in the Southwest of the country. It attracts holidaymakers of all shapes and sizes, both those with touring caravans and those with more permanent holiday homes.

Miles of sandy beaches, generally balmy temperatures and paddle-perfect waters make the sandy spit of Dawlish Warren a favourite destination. Unfortunately, after being devastated by storms in summer 2014, more than 100,000 tonnes of its sand and sea defences were damaged. This has put the delicate beach and the adjoining area at an even greater risk of further erosion and flooding.

This is bad news for the homes, businesses and holiday parks that line Dawlish Warren and the nearby coastline, but luckily the BBC has reported that initiatives are in place to up the defences in the area. Read more here.

This is just one example of the many UK holiday hotspots that are suffering from the great rate and severity of coastal erosion. There are also other high profile examples like Hemsby in Norfolk (more here) and Aldbrough in Yorkshire (details here).

After a turbulent 2013/14 winter and a surprising bout of storms this summer, the UK’s beaches have had a tough time of it, with miles having been shaved off the island’s perimeter.

The seriousness of this situation is not something to be taken lightly, especially considering the homes and businesses at risk from future cliff and coast disappearance. Even for those looking into buying a holiday home of their own, the risks should be calculated. View Allens Caravans here. After all, you don’t want to invest in a high quality luxury caravan with a convenient paddle-from-your-deck beach location, only to find out that a few short years later your beloved holiday home is teetering on the edge of a crumbling cliff.

Do your research and make sure you are up to scratch on coastal erosion and the at risk areas. Also, take time to contact caravan companies like Allens and discuss your needs and their options. For example, if you want a beach location but you want to invest in a geologically sturdy area, our Sunbeach Park is a great option. But you may not have considered this option if you were simply ruling out all beachside locations.
