Allens Caravans

There are hundreds of sights around the world that you will undoubtedly want to see, and with ever-expanding bucket lists and the accessibility of global travel, it’s easier than ever before. However, in amongst all the exotic destinations, it’s worth remembering that you don’t have to go far to discover new places, stunning scenery and fantastic attractions. For something different a little closer to home, you could look at caravan holidays in Wales for your break this year.

North Wales is one of the most strikingly beautiful regions of the UK, with plenty to offer locals and tourists alike. From the breath-taking heights of Snowdonia to the dramatic coastline, this area is steeped in endless natural beauty, ancient history, and remarkable culture.

Here at Allens Caravans, we believe that caravan hire in North Wales offers visitors the best possible chance to explore this extraordinary part of the country. Caravan holidays in North Wales are filled with fun, wonder, and excitement – and there’s always plenty to do to keep the whole family busy!

The beauty of our popular Sunbeach holiday park in North Wales is that it caters for everyone; all ages and all tastes. Excited families, adventurous friends and adrenaline-seeking couples or individuals can all enjoy themselves at this superb location.

Why Choose a Caravan Holiday in North Wales?

With the convenient base of a comfortable, luxurious static caravan, North Wales becomes yours to explore.

A caravan gives you all the familiar comforts of home in an exciting new setting, allowing you to head out and discover the sights and attractions of one of the most scenic parts of the country before heading back to your home away from home to indulge in comfy, deluxe surroundings.

A North Wales caravan holiday presents the ideal opportunity for relaxation and unwinding from the stresses of daily life – what could be better?

What to Do in North Wales

There is always plenty to do in North Wales, ranging from coastal, mountain and countryside walks through to historic castles and monuments, charming villages, and family-friendly days out.

Here are a few of the highlights to keep in mind when planning your caravan holiday.

Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth, or Aber, as it is dubbed by the locals, plays host to a wealth of quality pubs and restaurants making it perfect for eating out. However, if you are in the mood for something a little more cultured, then the town’s University is home to the National Library of Wales where nearly every book ever published is available to budding scholars.

In addition, the Aberystwyth Arts Centre regularly plays host to live music and theatre from around the world, perfect for an evening’s entertainment. Aberystwyth Castle, perched on the cliff overlooking the town, is one of the most historic sites in Wales and is perfect for a sightseeing trip and, weather permitting, a lovely picnic.

Snowdonia National Park

Snowdonia National Park is one of the most famous attractions in Wales, and with such impressive scenery, it’s not hard to see why! Whether you are a hiking enthusiast looking to try your hand at mountaineering – or even planning to climb Mount Snowdon itself – or you are just happy to marvel at the stunning views, the National Park is a real gem not to be missed.

If walking isn’t your thing, you can always take a trip up to the summit on the Snowdon Mountain Railway. Prepare to be amazed by the fantastic panoramic views and wonder at the incredible feat of engineering that is the railway itself. There’s plenty of time for photo opportunities, shopping, and a snack at the summit café before it’s back down to the ground once again.

Historic Castles

Wales is a country with a long, rich history, and some of the most famous, impressive Welsh castles are tightly woven into this historic tale. When you are visiting the area, it’s almost impossible not to notice these dramatic castles and ruins watching imposingly over the landscape – but why not make a proper trip out of it and visit some of these heritage castles?

As already mentioned, the ruins of Aberystwyth Castle are always a must-visit if you are in the town, but elsewhere, there are still plenty of castles to visit. Conwy Castle, on the north coast of Wales, is a striking, preserved medieval castle that overlooks both the town of Conwy and the estuary below. Alternatively, Caernarfon Castle sits imposingly on the waterfront, looking across the bay to the Island of Anglesey. Speaking of Anglesey, if you are planning to take a trip to the island, Beaumaris Castle is a definite destination to put on your list. Featuring outstanding examples of medieval architecture, the Castle also has a strong events and activities programme for visitors to enjoy year-round.

Natural Wonders

In a part of the country as unique as this, there are plenty of outstanding natural wonders to visit and marvel at. One of the best is Bodnant Garden, managed by the National Trust. This is an 80-acre botanical garden filled with an impressive array of plants from across the world, collected and curated in this humble corner of Snowdonia.

Alternatively, the whole family are sure to love a visit to Mynydd Llechi (Slate Mountain) near Blaenau Ffestiniog. This ancient former slate quarry is now home to one of the area’s premier family-friendly tourist attractions, with activities including a museum, cavern tours, workshops, and exhibits. The site is also home to a unique underground adventure course and trampoline park, and a zip wire spanning the quarry far below!

Families – If you’re holidaying with the whole family, you don’t want to be stuck inside. Why not take a trip and visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo, located near the town of Colwyn Bay? Going to the zoo is something that is suitable for the entire family and will undoubtedly leave you all with many great memories.

If the weather is being kind to you, another exciting option is to head off on a Seacoast Safari and catch a glimpse of the local nature. Of course, if the weather isn’t great, you could always spend some quality family time relaxing together at the caravan park.

With Pets – For those who have pets, it can be difficult to find the right place to go away, but there is more than enough to do with your pet in North Wales. Our Sunbeach Park is pet-friendly, so there are endless opportunities to take a long stroll along the coastal path or around any of the other beautiful country paths the region has to offer with your furry friend by your side.

If you’re looking to do something extra special, why not take your dog for a beer at the Bryntirion Inn? Located in Llandderfel, it’s one of many places in Wales that will give you a great meal but this place will also allow your dog to try the food and beer, too!

Couples – If you and your partner are looking for a great holiday then North Wales will be right up your street. There are various restaurants and plenty of activities to do. If you both enjoy an active lifestyle you might want to tackle the challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon, or take a long, romantic walk along one of the various beaches in North Wales.

Alternatively, you could decide to stay home at the caravan site and spend a few relaxing days together while taking advantage of the various facilities that the park has to offer. You don’t need to go off exploring – staying in can be just as fun and romantic.

Solo Travelling – You don’t have to go on a trip with anyone else – if you want to go alone then do it. There is still plenty to do and the fun won’t be dampened by travelling solo. If you love getting out and learning, you could visit Caernarfon Castle. This medieval castle is a great tourist attraction and will keep you busy all day; however, if you’d rather, this is also the perfect opportunity to stay at the holiday park and relax. This might be the first time in a long time that you’ve been able to think just about yourself, so why not pick up a book, grab a cup of tea or coffee and simply relax?

In the Spotlight

Whoever you’re travelling with, the natural beauty spot that is Sunbeach is everything you could want from cheap caravan holidays and more. With so many on and off-site facilities and activities, the kids will be happy, and there’s plenty of history, heritage and culture around to keep the parents interested, too.

What has North Wales got to offer then? Well, you can walk, hike, fish, bike, golf and swim to your heart’s content; partake in a spot of horse riding, take the kids go-karting, kayaking, try out a zip wire, and so much more besides.

There is a multitude of heritage railways, castles, museums and historic mines across the Snowdonia region for you and the family to explore. For those willing to travel a little further afield, there is even an eco-friendly Adventure Park along with King Arthur’s Labyrinth for all to enjoy.

Family Fun

With plenty of beautiful scenery on your doorstep, it would be a shame to leave the pooch at home to miss out on the walk of a lifetime! Bring your furry friend along to enjoy your holiday with you – there’s plenty for them to do!

In terms of the rest of the family, our caravan park has an indoor swimming pool, clubhouse, children’s games room, adventure playground, toddler soft play and also free Wi-Fi throughout the resort, meaning there’s something for everyone both in the park and outside of it, too.

Beach Games

One of the major benefits of staying at Sunbeach Holiday Park is that it is located on the shores of Cardigan Bay. With the beach in arm’s reach, why not invest in some beach equipment? All you need is a few inflatable balls, perhaps a net and some buckets and spades to make your own beach games! You can even turn your games into the Beach Olympics, with the grand prize being an ice cream of the winner’s choice.

North Wales Beaches

There are several other beaches in North Wales, each one as beautiful as the next, so if you fancy venturing further than Cardigan Bay, you have plenty of options.

Barmouth Beach

This well-known and picture-perfect beach is home to the quaint town of Barmouth and is a fantastic surfing spot. The sandy shore and superb water quality make this beach ideal for everything, from surfing and sailing to kayaking and jet-skiing.

Fairbourne Beach

Miles of sandy and rocky shore makes for a lovely spot at Fairbourne beach, whether you want to get stuck into surfing and windsurfing, or just fancy a picnic whilst you watch the water sports enthusiasts do what they do best. Another bonus is that the beach has restricted dog-friendly areas, as well as plenty of facilities to make the day more comfortable.

Tywyn Beach

A beautiful sandy beach with a long shoreline and a promenade running parallel, Tywyn is a stunning place to spend your summer. It has blue skies, blue water, and stunning coastal scenery as far as the eye can see. The surfing here is fair, but if you don’t feel like taking to a board, the area is a top spot for all sorts of other water sports.

Tal-y-Bont Beach

Tal-y-Bont is a truly stunning location on the North Wales coast. With green-topped hills and mountains providing a breath-taking backdrop as you look back from the sea, expanses of sand and expanses of shingle, you couldn’t ask for a better-looking surfing spot. And while dogs are banned for the summer, the basic facilities and minimal hassle from animals means you can go back to a pure and authentic beach experience.

Surf Snowdonia

Of course, not all surfing hotspots have to be conventional beaches. This is evidenced by the wonderful Surf Snowdonia Wavegarden; an inland surf lagoon where you can learn and improve existing surf skills while nestled amongst the peaks and valleys of Snowdonia National Park. Check out this innovative attraction here.

In addition to beach games and beautiful scenery, there is plenty of wildlife to be admired at all North Wales beaches.

The waters of Cardigan Bay are crawling with bottlenose dolphins, so much so that you’d be terribly unlucky not to spot one during your summertime caravan holiday with Allen’s Caravans. Dolphin spotting can be so much fun and can even be turned into a competition with you and your family along the lines of ‘whoever spots the most dolphins wins an ice cream’! You may also be in luck with spotting other sea life such as seals and perhaps even porpoises. If you’re ultra-lucky, you might get a glimpse at a few orcas, whales and basking sharks!

Aberystwyth

If you’re serious about spotting a dolphin in this location, it’s better to get it all booked now as early summer is rumoured to be the best time to spot the bottle-nose dolphins. When walking across the promenade, why not give the railing that marks the end a little kick. You wouldn’t want to break the tradition now, would you?

New Quay

Renowned for being the ultimate hotspot for these charming creatures, New Quay is said to be teaming with dolphins and you’re almost promised at least a glimpse of these beautiful animals. If you really want to push the boat out, why not consider taking one of the charter boats into Cardigan Bay? This way you’ll increase your chances even more of spotting a dolphin. Also, it’s highly recommended to pop into the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre during your visit to find out some interesting facts about sea life.

Aberaeron

This pretty little harbour offers you the chance to go out on a wildlife boat trip during your visit to increase your chances of spotting a dolphin. However, if you don’t fancy the ride, we’re sure you’ll catch a glimpse of at least one while sitting on the wall dining on delicious ice-cream and enjoying the weather.

Mwnt

This pleasant, hidden-away cove is the perfect opportunity to sit with the family and watch the dolphins go about their entertainment and daily business. It’s also great for seeing other sea life like seals and porpoises, so keep an eye out and take a camera; you’re in for a wild show!

Aberporth

This site offers wheelchair-friendly access so that everyone can enjoy the spectacular view of Welsh sea life. What may surprise you is that the headland opposite this site is in fact a MOD base that is used for testing all sorts of gadgets and weapons, including rockets, drones and guided missiles; but don’t worry! They have taken into account the sea life and conjured up a sonar listening system in order to detect any marine animals that may enter the area.

Caravan Hire in North Wales

Here at Allens Caravans, we are proud to operate two outstanding caravan holiday parks in North Wales – Sunbeach and Glan y Mor. Caravan holidays in North Wales can offer you the chance to experience some of the most picturesque scenery in the UK, and our two Welsh holiday parks are certainly no exception.

Sunbeach

Perfectly situated on the coast of Cardigan Bay, holidaymakers at our Sunbeach caravan holiday park are easily able to enjoy the beautiful Welsh countryside, pristine beaches, and nearby mountain walks. Furthermore, Sunbeach is just a short drive away from the picturesque towns of Barmouth, Tywyn, and Machynlleth, the ancient capital of Wales. Additionally, if you are prepared to venture a little further afield, you can also visit and take in the charming, lively University town of Aberystwyth.

While North Wales has plentiful attractions to offer, sometimes, a caravan holiday simply calls for complete and utter relaxation. Sunbeach has its own quaint seafront – the perfect setting for a leisurely sunset stroll. Additionally, there are plenty of top-quality facilities on the park itself; with a heated swimming pool and a wealth of activities to choose from, you can rest assured that there will always be something to keep you and your family occupied at Sunbeach.

Glan y Mor

On the doorstep of gorgeous, sheltered Clarach Bay lies our Glan y Mor holiday park. Ideally situated for lovers of nature and the great outdoors, as well as families looking to explore North Wales, Glan y Mor is picturesque and charming. Just three miles from Aberystwyth, Glan y Mor is centrally located for a visit to the Welsh coastline, the mountains of Snowdonia, or the beautiful North Wales countryside in between.

Since Glan y Mor is located in a wonderful setting, we have created an indoor leisure experience to match the high quality of the surrounding scenery, giving our guests the ultimate caravan holiday experience. Including a park club, leisure centre, shop, and onsite catering, if it’s relaxation you’re after, there’s no need to leave the park at all!

Make use of the Facilities and Document Your Experiences

As mentioned, there are plenty of amenities to make use of at our popular Sunbeach Holiday Park; not only is there a lot to do off-site including seaside walks, countryside strolls and sea fishing, on-site is just as fun with things like the site’s special Driftwood Clubhouse which houses a lovely restaurant, a teenagers’ games room and a heated outdoor swimming pool in the summer.

You can also document your experiences, like going to the beach, by taking a few fun snaps of everyone enjoying their time away. You can then pop these photographs in a scrapbook back at the holiday home. You can use a few thin twigs and leaves for your scrapbook to make it look a little more nature-inspired, or you can use other mementos from the trip like little shells and ticket stubs of your favourite events and attractions.

It’s not just summer holidays that can take place at our parks in North Wales – it’s an equally great place for your winter getaway, too! Our Sunbeach Holiday Park is open 11 months of the year excluding January, and unlike many places where the crisp winter air means that quite a few locations shut down for the Christmas season, North Wales still has a number of places to visit during the snowy season.

Centre for Alternative Technology

This centre is child-friendly and welcomes people of all ages to come and witness a spectacular display of what the title suggests; alternative technology! The centre is based around eco-friendly sustainability and teaches us about various methods of just that. It invites people to learn more about how they can do their part as well as see this sustainability in action. What’s more, this particular centre even offers specialised courses for a number of different industries as well as schools, making it an educational yet fun day out for the whole family.

This centre is situated approximately 11 miles away from the site.

King Arthur’s Labyrinth

Running from now until the 2nd of November, you can explore and uncover lost secrets of the Dark Ages. The centre is complete with an underground trail that takes you through a waterfall and fills you in on all of the mythical stories that time has forgotten. You can expect to hear about King Arthur and a collection of enchanting legends that bring mythology to life!

This centre is located roughly 10 miles away from Sunbeach Holiday Park.

Snowdonia National Park

If you don’t want to miss out on hiking and walking trails during the winter, then wrap up warm and head to Snowdonia National Park! Though a little further than the attractions listed above at an estimated 14 miles away, it is definitely worth a visit if stunning views and a bit of fresh air is what you are after. There are also a number of local events to attend so remember to keep an eye out for what’s going on and make a day of your trip to Snowdonia National Park!

It also offers a wonderful landscape for photographers and peace and quiet for inspiration that writers who want to get away from busy city life need.

So, if you’re looking for relaxation and a bit of adventure thrown in for all the family without the hassle of airports and flights in the middle of the night, problem solved! Our Sunbeach Caravan Park is not just ideally placed in North Wales, nestled in amongst the mountains and the beach, but we also have free Wi-Fi, a clubhouse, activities for kids of all ages, an adventure playground, a boat park, indoor pool, sea-fishing and we even welcome dogs!

When it comes to short breaks or caravan holidays in North Wales, you simply can’t go wrong with Allens Caravans. Be sure to book your holiday with us this summer or winter and enjoy a memorable and satisfying caravan holiday.
