Home / Blog / What Bills Do I Need to Pay in a Static Caravan?
Posted: January 10, 2022
As with any property, the upfront costs are only a fraction of what needs to be paid when residing in a static caravan.
You also need to pay the living costs that include the gas, electric, and water bills. This is the case for any home but, with a static caravan, you also have to pay for the transportation of your home and the pitch fees. Alongside these costs, you’ll also find yourself decorating your static caravan over time which will incur further costs.
Though you’ll have to pay these bills when inhabiting one of our residential homes, you may find that the price of our holiday homes includes the delivery, siting, and connection to our mains. Despite this, you’ll typically have to pay your annual site fees on top of the initial cost. With this being said, what bills do you need to pay in a static caravan?
First thing’s first, you’ll need to get your caravan to your desired location, but how much does it cost to move a static caravan? Ultimately, the cost will vary depending on the size of the unit and the distance being travelled. However, you can expect to pay a starting price of around £700+ VAT. Despite this, costs can sometimes exceed £5,000+ VAT if a twin unit is being relocated across the country. This cost typically includes pitching, jacking, levelling, supporting the unit, and siting to any requirements.
Initial Costs
Depending on how you purchase your caravan, you may be subject to regular payments. If you buy your home outright, you’ll be able to avoid this. Otherwise, you may be paying off a loan in monthly instalments over several years.
Pitch Fees
A pitch fee is the amount that you pay to keep your static caravan sited on our parks. Essentially, this is almost like a rent payment for the land where your caravan is situated. Payment of your pitch fees entitles you to multiple benefits.
This provides you with access to the park’s facilities and contributes to the upkeep and maintenance of the park’s grounds. Similarly, it gives you access to maintenance services, as well as exclusive events. In addition to this, there is 24-hour monitoring of parks by security, providing you with peace of mind. Furthermore, for holiday parks that aren’t open 12 months of the year, this cost covers winter storage costs.
The cost of our pitch fees varies depending on the park’s location, but please don’t hesitate to enquire about this ahead of your purchase.
Gas and Electricity
Like a brick-and-mortar house, you’ll have to pay a gas and electricity bill, and the process won’t differ too greatly from traditional housing. You’ll receive a monthly bill to your address that you can either set up a direct debit for or pay directly to your provider. The yearly cost of these bills will vary depending on your location, but you should expect to pay somewhere between £400 and £800 on a yearly basis.
Water
Your water bill rates will be determined by your local authority as they will calculate a percentage of the rates on your holiday park. Once again, this will vary among locations, however, you’re likely to be paying anywhere from £300 to £600 per year.
Council Tax
If you use your caravan as your sole residence, you will be required to pay council tax, much like in any home. The cost of your council tax will be determined at Band A which is the cheapest. You won’t be required to pay council tax if your static home is used purely for recreational purposes; however, in this instance, you may be asked to contribute towards the business rates of the park.
