Living in a residential caravan is a great option for people from all walks of life. Whether you’re a young, growing family or grandparents who enjoy having their grandchildren over, static caravans on any of the Allens Caravans residential parks are safe, secure and family-friendly.
Whilst our onsite team will ensure your property and those within it are safe at all times, you may need to do your part to babyproof your caravan. Here are some of the ways you can do that and keep tiny tots out of danger.
Baby Gates
Static caravans are generally very safe for children and babies They’re open and spacious, and unlike houses, there are no flights of stairs that children could fall down. That being said, certain areas may still need to be out of bounds, such as the bathroom. You may also not want your baby or grandchild to have access to the kitchen, especially when you’re cooking. In this instance, a baby gate is your best option. Most children can’t figure baby gates out, and you can get them in varying heights and widths for all kinds of doorways.
You will want to ensure that there is nothing that a child could use as a stepping stool nearby to the baby gate. Babies are stronger than most people think and are excellent climbers, so keep chairs and other potential impromptu climbing frames out of the way of baby gates.
Corner Protectors
Babies and toddlers are small and cute, but it is their height that can be their greatest enemy. Children tend to be the same height as coffee tables, side tables, dining tables and chair seats. All of these things can have sharp corners that can easily cause a bump on the head. For this reason, it’s worth buying corner protectors. You can get clear ones that won’t detract from the beauty of your static caravan home, but that will ensure small heads are safe and protected from any potential bumps.
Cabinet Locks
Whilst baby gates can go a long way to restricting access to certain areas, it’s worth adding locks to your kitchen or bathroom cabinets just in case. There are lots of different types of locks you can buy depending on the type of doors and handles you have, so may need to do some research. They’re generally quite cheap to pick up, but they can provide unrivalled protection against things like chemicals, food and utensils.
With parks set in the glorious countrysides of Worcestershire, Warwickshire and North Wales, you can wander and take in the fresh air and the sights of our beautiful country. When you decide to call it a day and head back to your caravan, you can enjoy a well-earned meal and settle in for the evening as a family or get out and socialise at any of the facilities found inside our parks.
Plug Sockets
Like any other home, your static caravan will have a number of plug sockets. You would be forgiven for thinking that all plug sockets should be covered using protector inserts, but this advice is now obsolete. Unless you’re living in a very old static caravan that has not had plug socket covers changed recently, there’s no need to worry! British plug sockets actually have a babyproof feature built-in.
The bottom two holes have white covers to prevent small fingers from poking inside. When you insert a plug or a protector insert into the top hole, it retracts the safety cover on the bottom two holes, exposing the electrical current point. It’s possible to insert a plug or the cover into the top hole only, creating a danger that otherwise wasn’t there. For this reason, avoid plug socket covers. Be smart around loose wires and ensure there isn’t a lot of loose cabling that could present a risk. This may mean tucking extension leads and long cables away or using a cable tidy.
