This year on Sunday 17 November, hikers across the country will be celebrating Take a Hike Day, a worldwide event that encourages those to explore the great outdoors. If you’re looking to get away and want to see some stunning views, here are 5 of the best walks available to take whilst away on short breaks in the UK:

Bochlwyd Horseshoe, Snowdonia

This Welsh route is ideal for all levels of hiker, providing stunning views across all of Snowdonia’s mountains. Offering plenty of scrambling opportunities, two summits are available to conquer on this route, Tryfan and Glyder Fach, an ideal challenge for anyone who wants to make the most of their short breaks in Wales.

The Lake District

This beautiful park in Cumbria offers an extensive variety of walks and hikes for every ability, from climbing rocks in Windermere to stargazing at Friar’s Crag. For novices or those with a lack of navigation skills, the national park also runs a regular service where hikers can be guided by volunteers, following them on a guided and informative excursion for free.

Weymouth to Swanage, Dorset

Also known as the Dorset Doddle, this is route is dotted with fascinating geological specimens but is not for the faint-hearted! Spanning 32 miles and taking 2-3 days to walk (or 6-8 hours to run), the long-distance challenge features some tough routes and steep steps alongside its stunning views of cliff tops and the beautiful English coast.

Ben Lui, Scottish Highlands

With its snow-covered surface, it’s no wonder why Ben Lui has been described as one of the finest hikes in the UK. This graceful mountain offers height and plenty to see, measuring 3707 feet and which used to be a gold mine. There are also plenty of routes to take along its four peaks of varying difficulties, making it an ideal excursion to make for a winter climb.

Peak District

Whether you want a challenging hike or leisurely stroll, there are various routes available at the Peak District which are suitable for all ages and abilities. For serious hikers however, there’s the Pennine Way National Trail, which offers astonishing views of the Edale skyline from its highest point of 2, 078 feet. There’s also the beautiful 46-mile Limestone way route as well as a range of summits and hills to conquer yourself.
